At The History Collective, we are dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of our community.
The History Collective (THC) is a professional body of historians, teachers, and researchers. It aims to foster dialogue, facilitate access to recent research, raise historical issues, uphold scientific methodology, and provide a platform for historiographical discussions. Previously, as a part of The History Collective’s attempt to engage in conversations on contemporary social issues, and promote research, it has hosted many webinars and organized panels. At the Indian History Congress, 2019, The History Collective presented a panel discussion on the theme, Change and Continuity in Religious Traditions in the Indian Subcontinent. And further, in 2022, we organized a panel discussion on the theme, Elephant in the Room: Teaching Histories of Gender.
As a member of The History Collective, you will have access to exclusive events and discounts, as well as the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting an important community organization. Join us in preserving our history for future generations.
The History Collective’s logo symbolises the historian’s continuous engagement with the past and its relationship with society through scientific enquiry and critical thinking. The spiral at the centre of the logo is an ammonite, representing the thousands of species of ocean dwelling molluscs that died out about sixty-six million years ago, but have been found in the form of fossils in large numbers all around the world. In popular lore they have been the centre of myths and beliefs in different civilizations and societies. At the same time for scientists they are an important tool, because they help in determining the age of the rocks in which they are found.
The outer form of the logo is that of the sun, which in popular culture and belief has long symbolised power and vitality. The sun’s light and heat, and the earth’s movement around it, make life possible on earth. Variations in day and night, weather, climate, and many natural phenomena that have created a variety of human habitats, are a result of the sun and its effects on earth.
The logo was created by Neeti Bannerjee.
The idea for The History Collective was born in 2019, when a group of professional historians came together to discuss the need for a dedicated organization to preserve and share the history. It aims to facilitate a dialogue among historians, with a view to enable access to recent research, provide a platform to raise historical and historiographical issues and uphold a rigorous scientific methodology and interpretive frameworks. The endeavour is to carve out a space for new efforts in the field and also to participate actively in conversations surrounding contemporary social issues.
At The History Collective, we offer a variety of programs and events throughout the year, including lectures, workshops, walking tours, and more. Our goal is to engage the community and provide opportunities for everyone to learn about history. Our programmes are committed to advancing research in Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts and Culture, and disseminating this through various media.
